Aquariums make great gifts.  They are great for people in small apartments, people who travel a lot, people with living rooms, and people that need to relax.  Aquariums also make great gifts for Dads.  Some important things to consider are price, filter, and size.

The initial cost of an aquarium will be high.  But the bulk of the cost will last you 10 years or more.  If you look at it as a 120 month expense, the cost becomes lower.  If getting an aquarium is out of your budget, get a gift card the recipient can use to buy their own aquarium. 

I recommend getting a 29 gallon or larger tank.  With a smaller tank you become limited with what and how many fish you can keep.  Also, smaller tanks tend to crash more than larger ones. 

I recommend Fluval canister filtration.  These are reliable filters that will last.  They will keep your fish alive for the long term with minimal maintenance.
